Hammertime

So it has begun and I've found some interesting things in this demo of my 1977 excella. Macadamia nuts, bee hive and a wasps nest, lots of spiders both dead and alive and lots of droppings. But so far no dead animals. I just decided a lot if the cabinets are to saggy to salvage although a lot of parts are good so I will be selling some of those so stay tuned bud here are some pics if the nastiness.

She was parked next to a macadamia nut tree so the rats/mice/squirrels looked for refuge to hide their stash. PO had no idea this was going on but he said its at least 3 years of but storage

Hi - first, I love your avatar.

Second - isn't "standard surprise" an oxymoron? :-)

Third - wow! I'm impressed with what you're tackling there! Should be amazing when completed!!

Good point. But to restorer's i guess those "surprises" are expected. Should I say standard no surprises?! I mean what you know

Day 3 and its for the most part half gutted. Gonna strip the inner panels off and remove the cotton candy pull all the wiring and inspect C channel damage at rear and around the wheel wells. Started initial planning for design now that I can see the whole space empty so it will be double duty on computer and demo'ing the floor. The frame needs help so once floor is off ill be able to see the necessary repairs. Ill be documenting everything but I will kinda do this in reverse. Meaning the next post (unless something crazy happens) will be the final product and then the process that I will show are the methods I came up with for the new design. You've seen all the repairs I will need to make on here anyway...rusted frames, rear end separation, damaged floors...so I won't bore you with what you've already seen. So until then here are the issues I'm dealing with which most of you know the solutions to. Wish me luck! See you guys hopefully soon!

Amazing how these rear ends don't separate right out of the showroom with all the holes drilled at critical parts of support

It's not too bad but the frame underneath is pretty shot. I'm guessing the PPO took off the belly pans and let the rear end sit in the snow since all the damage was on the rear end.

The jarring damage of bad axles. As I feared on my drive home the kitchen divider which is right above the axle bounced up into this skin puncturing it. I maintained no more than 45 mpg on the way home but the 5 fwy in so cal might as well be dirt roads in the back country. I knew this damage wasn't there before I brought it home. Oh well. Should be a fairly easy repair.

Do not buy new axles from the guy in Corona......I recieved the wrong axles and then he wanted me to buy them again so he could "get it right this time" and told me he would refund my original charge in 30 days ...after I returned the original order. What a waste of time and money!!!
