1969 Airstream Ambassador International + and -

I am looking at a 1969 AS Ambassador International with a straight body, original interior, good floor except for bathroom area, and working systems. It is pretty dirty, and in a little disrepair, but workable. My interests have always been in the pre 64 models. But perhaps this AS will satisfy the need and allow my wife and I to practice, while gently rehabilitating this model. Does anyone know any plus or minus characteristics that I need to know about before I bite the bullet. P.S. It can be had for $2000. Might be negotiable.

Check for frame rot by standing on the rear bumper and look for sag or separation, also the axles are gone if they have not been replaced. 2000 dollars might not be too bad. Let's see what everyone else has to say. zz

What was I thinking? If the body is dentless? and the interior is original, then I think this is a steal! It will cost lots, but this is original. zz

60'S models have a lot of style. If the body looks good with no dents and the floor is sound I would say 2000 is a reasonable price. Cleaning and cosmetic cost little but systems, axles and frame cost a lot. Remember 60's models do not have grey water tanks you will need to retro fit or purchase a blue tank. Good luck and post some pictures if you purchase the trailer. Twistedsilver is located just north of Nashville and he may be able to give you some advice.

Not necessarily a plus or minus, but something to check. Remember that the 1969 was a transitional model year so there will be some things from the earlier era as well as the post-'68 era. One feature that I am aware of that was '69 only were the wing windows -- they are a shape unique to '69 and can be a bit difficult to replace if the glass is damaged.

Good luck with your investigation!
