Question 1967 Ambassador

So I am VERY new to this Airstream ownership... But I just purchased a 67 Ambassador, 28', Landyacht... So as stupid questions go, I will ask a doozy... What is the differance between A Landyacht and an international, in general? I can find very little info here on the web about my Landyacht. Everything is international this or that... What does this all mean?

Thanks in advance!

As a side note, this thing is in pretty good shape, not quite ready to move in but very close... The exteror is great and ready to polish... So I am guessing it is worth the 1000 bucks I paid...

Don't worry, you are not the only one getting confused. We have all been there.
Here is a VERY recent question, pretty much like yours: Reading the serial number question

1967 Ambassador International

The International series, at least according to my understanding and via a 1950s Airstream brochure (thought to be 1955), began life as an option package that included such features as:

1. Large, LP fired water heater.
2. Large water storage tank with exterior filler permitting filling via hose or bucket (with auxiliary pressure pump).
3. Complete bathroom with flush toilet, septic tank, plastic tub and/or shower.
4. Built-in 12-volt and 115-volt electric system with custom dual-powered light fixtures.
5. LP Gas powered refrigerator.
6. Built-in water purifier capable of removing bacteria and other contaminants (usually mounted at the kitchen sink).
7. Up-graded foam mattresses.
8. Preparation package for radio and television.

While many of these features became standards for the entire line by the 1960s, the International usually denoted a step above in terms of interior accommodations. For instance, the water filter seems to be a constant with the International package - - my '64 has a water filter mounted under the kitchen sink, and I have seen a 1970s coach that also had one mounted under the bathroom vanity.

In the case of my '64, the International package included:

Water Purifier/Filter; Two Uni-Volt powered Cieling Fans; Two 12-Volt Outlets (one in bath for shaving, one in living area for television); Two Over-Sized LP Tanks (30 lb. rather than 20 lb. on my coach); A Police-Type Radio Antenna; A 12-Volt Exterior Flood Light Next to Door (scare light); A Battery Condition Meter; A Battery Operated Clock; Stainless Steel Galley Sinks; Deluxe Plumbing Hardware; Galley Hand Spray; Galley Formica Splash Panel; Bedroom Wall Comfort Panel (wall upholstery); Bedspreads; Nylon Upholstery; Belgian Linen Curtains, Vinyl Floor Tile; Deluxe Hubcaps.

It seems like the only way to find the content of a given year's International package is via an original sales brochure. The '64 and '65 are quite similar; and I suspect that the 66-68 would also likely be very similar. While it isn't mentioned in the literature, it is my belief that the International package on my coach also included upholstery on the ceiling that matched the upholstery on the bedroom walls.

While not a definitive list for your particular model coach, this information may help to identify some of the equipment that was likely a part of the package.

Kevin,

Thanks for the insight for where to set my sights on the rehab of "The Wreck". It seems that the International had dark wood intereror also..

Tedd, you saw inside Luna at Amboy.. I suspect that the wood is mahogany, stained dark, but Gary says walnut.

The prior owner, Linda, had the couch arms done and a frame built for the new fridge.. George did it himself, and it was done beautifully.

I need to clean and polish the wood. It's all in beautiful shape but could use some TLC so it can make it another 40 years.

See you at Moraine! Don't you wish we could leave NOW?
