1967 28ft Ambassador Do Over

Hi All,
I have owned my AS for 13 years, and now I am finally gutting her and attempting a DoOver; as many, many of you here on the site have done over the years. I have been doing my research for years now, and I am ready to take on the challenge! My AS is affectionately named Maude (& yes she bites) being a '67 enjoys all the worries, troubles, pleasures and tribulations of that particular year & model. I'll admit I have absolutely no idea what or how to make it all happen, as I imagine in my mind, but I am tenacious and strong, and I am taking the advice of a friend, who told me to just start and take what comes[ took him 8 years to build his boat, and he and his family just sailed it from Nova Scotia].

I intend to get as far as I can on my own, that includes interior deconstruction/demolition, frame reconditioning, and sub + floor installing, windows, inner skin strip and belly pan removal and fixing, polishing & painting, new hatch where AC was and popup fans and ports redone. Probably will need lots of help with axel replacement, solar, batteries & re-wiring, maybe plumbing ( but I think I can do that-composting toilet, sink, shower, kitchen, gray water only) propane install just for cooking, and of course building out the interior(including building 2 new end caps) , but I'll try and do as much as I can with the poor math skills that I possess.

As of today been working on removing the rear belly pan to get to the sub floor. I think this is the best solution, as removing 6ft of flooring via the interior almost killed me.

Thank you in advance for comments, suggestions, encouragements or just plain crazy talk! Here is to the open road!

I'll post pictures a little later...

PS. Im also a beekeeper, but I don't really think I can take bees traveling?

Hello! AirStream Newb here still in the research phase,

So you will be repairing the sub-floor and Supports from under the AS? i assume you will be repairing sections instead of the whole thing.

Are you out sourcing the Frame reconditioning?

Good Luck! Cant wait to be where your at Take one thing at a time and dream of the open road often!

You're doing a great job so far. Taking out the floor is hard work. Actually, it's all hard work especially in this heat. I'm working on a '67 Overlander and it looks like we are both at about the same point. Hope your frame is in better shape than mine. Keep up the good work!

Hi SpitFireRX,

I'm removing the belly pan now, so I can strip all the subfloor materials, and then Im not sure yet.

Im doing the frame myself as I have a friend whos a welder. I also have a sandblaster so I think I can do it?

I haven't decided yet if I'm lifting the frame or not yet...yikes!
Thanks for the encouragement!

Thanks so much Mike!
all of it is so hard, but I keep on trucking! It will all be worth it in the end!
I'm totally going to do the hole bolt cutting as the sharp end of a hammer is getting on my nerves! I'll keep up with your other great ideas via your blog!
