1967 28ft Ambassador Do Over
Hi All,
I have owned my AS for 13 years, and now I am finally gutting her and attempting a DoOver; as many, many of you here on the site have done over the years. I have been doing my research for years now, and I am ready to take on the challenge! My AS is affectionately named Maude (& yes she bites) being a '67 enjoys all the worries, troubles, pleasures and tribulations of that particular year & model. I'll admit I have absolutely no idea what or how to make it all happen, as I imagine in my mind, but I am tenacious and strong, and I am taking the advice of a friend, who told me to just start and take what comes[ took him 8 years to build his boat, and he and his family just sailed it from Nova Scotia].
I intend to get as far as I can on my own, that includes interior deconstruction/demolition, frame reconditioning, and sub + floor installing, windows, inner skin strip and belly pan removal and fixing, polishing & painting, new hatch where AC was and popup fans and ports redone. Probably will need lots of help with axel replacement, solar, batteries & re-wiring, maybe plumbing ( but I think I can do that-composting toilet, sink, shower, kitchen, gray water only) propane install just for cooking, and of course building out the interior(including building 2 new end caps) , but I'll try and do as much as I can with the poor math skills that I possess.
As of today been working on removing the rear belly pan to get to the sub floor. I think this is the best solution, as removing 6ft of flooring via the interior almost killed me.
Thank you in advance for comments, suggestions, encouragements or just plain crazy talk! Here is to the open road!
I'll post pictures a little later...
PS. Im also a beekeeper, but I don't really think I can take bees traveling?
