Question Hatching out...

We just adopted a 75 Ambassador. One of the utility hatch hinges is cheesed up. I would like to try and keep her in her original state, but I can not find the top hinge to the refrigerator utility hatch. Does anyone know where I can find old parts like this, or any other parts from this era?

Check out Vintage Trailer Supply - give them a call, they have lots of stuff for older AS's...or

on the west coast, there's Inland RV who specialize in older AS's...

Amy,

Skip the replacement "J" hinge. You don't need it,

Get about a 6 inch long hinge.

Turn the door "upside down" and set it in place.

Attach the new hinge to the bottom of the door jam, and what is now the bottom of the door.

The lock will operate just as well at the top of the jamb as well as it did at the bottom.

An additional advantage, is now when you open that door, it will stay attached instead of you having to place it on the ground.

Never again, will you have a problem with that reefer access door.

It will work the same way as the rear compartment door.

Many owners, while their at it, change all the access doors, to open from the "top" instead of the bottom.

Also, should you forget to close that door and decide to drive off, you cannot run over it.
