I just replaced my umbilical and female connector in the wall of my 69 Overlander. I replaced the wall connector with a metal female round pin connector made by Pollak. It fit the holes identically and I wired it identically with OEM.

I modified the umbillical wiring by connecting the appropriate wire (regardless of color) to the applicable pin. I had the black wire (from the truck) in the center - charge line. I connected the blue line from the truck to the yellow wire on the trailer and the yellow wire from the truck to the black on the trailer.

I made a diagram and matched the truck connector to the trailer. The metal Pollak female plug looks great, but I did put a sheet of gasket (rubber) between it and the aluminum skin. I also used stainless screws. Make sure you take careful notes before disassembling and don't lose any grounds. There are several connected to the back side on each of the mounting screws.
