1969 Airstream, 25' Land Yacht

Greetings to all:

I have a 1969 Airstream, 25' Land Yacht that recently received hail damage to the roof. When my State Farm insurance appraisor looked at the damage, he said it was a total loss and they offered me a "take it or leave it" settlement of $1,882... and I can keep the trailer. They based this offer on a (prior to the accident) market value of $3,500 that they obtained from Windish RV of Denver, Colorado...who has never seen the unit.

I paid $7,000 for the unit 5 years ago and have since added new flooring, new heater, new air conditioner and replaced all of the plumbing . The interior has been miticulously cared for and the exterior is in great condition also; with the exception of the small dents that now adorn the roof. I'm pretty sure the unit's market value was worth at least $6,000 or more prior to the damage but I'm not an expert in such matters and in no position to speak with any authority.

The insurance agent said she would reconsider their offer if I can substan-tiate a higher value. So, I'm searching for one or more persons who are creditable experts and knowledgeable concerning what the market value of my Airstream was prior to sustaining the hail damage.

If you can assist me, or know of someone who might be able to help me, please contact me at my e-mail address: digitalphotos@msn.com.

Thanks for your assistance,

Rich Compton

Hi Rich;

You should definately get a second appraisal done on your Trailer.

We had to obtain insurance for our 1969 GlobeTrotter before we could bring her into Canada From Louisianna. With the assistance of an official Airstream Dealer's (endorsement) We used the Price Vs Condition table provided at the web site below.

http://www.vintageairstream.com/rr_t...condition.html

This is the most accurate pricing of Vintage Units we could find - in fact the only one we could find. We were able to insure our Trailer at $8000.00 US.

So that should give you a good idea that it is legit!!! We use a company called Wawanessa - not sure if they have a sister company in the States??

But for a couple of "pock marks" on the rough - certainly does not warrent the $1882 they are offering.

Good Luck
