I always made a long (10') wire with alligator clips on both ends. It makes testing with a VOM meter easier. The leads on a meter are never long enough to reach all over.

Maybe I wasn't clear. The positive leads go to the circuits which are separately fused. If the short was on the other side of the positive fuse, the positive fuse would be blowing. So my coclusion was that the negative fuse was blowing because some positive circuit with no fuse, or a larger fuse, was shorted.

If Chuck's trailer is wired like the diagram, the short almost has to be in the TV 7 way or converter wiring or the converter itself. Follow the wire from the positive fuse to the distribution circuit breakers. The two wires leaving the bottom go to the 7-way and the converter.

Just thought of something else. It looks like the fuse on the left is the battery positive and the fuse on the right is the converter positive, or vice versa. What are the value of those fuses? The depending on the model, the converter could source as much as 60 amps. Depending on the battery or batteries, more than 30 amps in the negative lead could be normal.

Problem solved! As tends to be the case in 51 year old trailers, lots of jury rigging goes on. Some nucklehead (read me) ran a wire under the battery hold down when I was wiring the new power jack last fall. It had managed to wear through and was shorting everything out. All of the trouble shooting suggestions helped to isolate this. Stand by for the next panic. And I'm sure that there will be one.
