It's not wise to use one of the vent openings, for a number of reasons.

Andy, I'm getting ready to have an AC unit installed and my plan was to put it in the 14 X 14 vent area over the galley. It sounds like you're saying don't do that. Is that correct?

he does say that but many have done so. It requires reinforcing the space under the roof with wood. See posts on that subject.
