Window Latch hard to lock

On our 2016FC23D, the latches on large two windows are very hard to lock in place. They do lock in place, but it's very hard. I have to pull the L shape handle as hard as I can before turning it to lock position.


Is there any remedy for that?

I think the tension on the handle can be adjusted. Open the window as high as it will go. Mind your head.

Look for two nuts on either side of the latch on the outside side of the window frame. Locate the nuts and unscrew the “outside” one somewhat, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 turn to start.

Hold the outside nut in that position, then gently tighten the “inside” one to lock the latch in position. I’d suggest using an open end wrench and a socket wrench to do this. The nuts should be the same size.

Then try the window again. You want it to just compress the gasket enough to prevent water intrusion, but not so much you have to put a lot of force on the locking lever.
If you have two locking levers, try to adjust them the same amount.

Watch your head. The edge of the window can cause a cut or a bad headache if you clock your noggin on it.

everything rmkrum said, but I'd add one thing.
that little elbow of metal on the latch as it rubs against the stop can make a lot of friction amazingly enough.
a little touch of lubricant like lubriplate can make all the difference.
