Sofa through door?

Has anyone had success getting a sofa sleeper through an airstream door?

Airstream tells us all their furniture and cabinets come in through the door. But many residential sofas are deigned to fit through a standard residential 36" (building code) exterior door opening, they wouldn't fit.

Did it last week but had to take the actual sofa part off the metal frame under it.

Had no problem taking the sofa out, reupholstering it and then bringing it back in. We have a 95 Excella. BTW I stripped out a lot of stuff when re-doing floors and everything went out the door with little issue. The stuff was designed that way.

Many sleeper sofas are designed to come apart. Ask the company you buy from how this can be done. I had one where the whole back was held in place by two or three dowel pins. Pull up hard and the back separates from the rest. Some arms, similar deal, but might require a tool or two. If the bottom dust cover is in 3 pieces, one for each arm and the big one for the seat area, the arms are designed to come off.

We were able to do the same with the sleeper/sofa in our rig, all in one piece.

Wondering what you did about sofa replacement. Just purchased 1985 Excella---same issue with doorway. Thought about Ikea & build it inside.

Thankfully, the custom full size sofa I ordered fit perfectly. I unscrewed the legs and removed the pull out bed contraption that was just bolted onto the inner frame. It was super easy to do. Then my husband and I pushed the sofa in on it's side and it barely fit. Then, I put the feet and fold out sleeper back in. It looks great. Its a sofa from West Elm with a queen sleeper bed. I measured about 10 times before I ordered it. The height of the back of the sofa was about 1/2 inch smaller than the door frame

The sofa is a "Paidge Queen Sleeper" by West Elm. I can't find where I wrote down the dimensions, but they are online. I think it looks great! I've attached a picture, but if it doesn't come through, send me an email address and I will send it to you!
