Screen Door

He screen door on my 86. 31' Sovereign is getting ratty -- there are longitudinal cracks starting at the hinge points that provide way too much flex. Sooner or later they will track all the way through.

Anybody repair this? If so, how?

This particular screen door can' t still be available can it?

I found a screen door off a salvage unit. The screen door is still available; I was quoted about $350 from a dealer in FL if I am remembering correctly.

Screen doors will fatigue crack when subjected to severe vibration.

Running gear balanced/ Overkill of the hitch or tow vehicle?

The screen door on our Argosy had longitudinal cracks. I simply riveted angle aluminum vertically along the frame to reinforce the area. It has worked for three years.
The hinge area on these doors is way too small for the application. When aluminum is flexed in this manner, it work hardens and cracks. Every time you open the screen door you flex the area around the hinges. Eventually it will crack.

Treat your screen door like it is gold. I was quoted $500 +shipping from the mothership.

Running gear is fine Andy, using Centramatics and there are no other issues. I think it is just a case of high use. The fractures are about six inches long and are in the area of the hinge attach points. The door works but must be treated with kid gloves.

Was hoping for a miracle (I.e. cheap and easy) fix. Will look at the area and see if there is room for a backing plate.

I would be interested to see your fix. I have same problem, was thinking of removing the OE rivets, then riveting a couple stainless steel plates over the cracked area.

Spaced out the pics. Will post them soon. Aluminum will work to make the repair. No dissimilar metals that way.
