Question on Front Window and Plexiglass

I am putting back in my front window on a 1979 Overlander. When I removed it and the plexiglass there was a a seal of some sort. What do I need to put between the two when I reinstall? Thanks.

If it is plexiglass it is a replacement. It should be tempered glass, at least earlier 70s models are glass. Lexan (polycarbonate) is much better than plexiglass but no as good as glass. A glass shop may be able to do it for you if it is a flat window.I think there should be a vinyl gasket. It may not longer be available. You can use Vulkem or Silkaflex caulk instead of the gasket.

Let me rephrase the question with more info.

We have cleaned the plexiglass and the glass panes and frames.

Recall the "D" gasket that you normally glue around the aluminum frame of the other windows.

I was considering attaching one continuous strip of the "D" gasket to the inside of the plexiglass frame with its normal adhesive. That way I only have one joint, each end of the gasket, to use the 3M adhesive to make the seal. When you install the plexiglass frame it pushes the curved side of the "D" against the glass.

The questions are:

Has anyone done this before?

Did it or did it not seal properly?

What are other alternatives that others have done?

Which windows are glass and which are plastic? Are you talking about a rock guard that protects the front window? Photos would help.
