One more vista view question

I have resisted removing the inner pane of my vista view from my 1976 mostly due to the thermal pane effect. They are so bad that I keep the shades pulled all the time. Will I lose energy effecency? If I decide to break one pane what do people do with the gap created. I know this has been discussed before but if I do this there is no going back.

Well, you might try doing a google search from outside the forums and use terms like "vista view airforums." You should get several threads discussing rebuilds.

As far as thermal efficiency, I would guess it will have minimal impact if you remove the inner pane, as the majority of the windows in the trailer are only single paned anyway, plus the whole trailer is composed of highly conductive aluminum skins with an aluminum rib every so far along its length.

I disassembled my vistas, removed the inside pane, and used a piece of black automotive rubber hose to fill the gap and apply some pressure to the outer pane to help keep the seal. So far, so good.

Can-Am can supply a replacement gasket to fill the gap after removing the inner pane. There are various ways the pane is retained (some disassemble, some need to be broken). Take a look at this thread http://www.airforums.com/forums/f454...ws-113847.html

You will lose energy efficiency especially in cold weather. The single pane is drafty and condensation forms. I keep the covers down on cold nights.

I removed the inner glass on my 77 ,I did all 3 and 2 came out fine one broke in the process so be prepared they look great after but it cost a few hundred to get a replacement from airstream .its a little project to drill all rivets out reseal and replace the little bugger but i was happy when done. good luck
