Angry nx awning operation

I am trying to follow the directions about opening the patio awning and raising it so that i can open the door. If I get to the last step the tension on the awning is so high I can't pull the pin to raise the awning. If I first raise the awning, I find I'm not tall enough to push the awning up and out to extend the arm so I need to use a ladder which is precarious pushing against the tension on the awning. So what i've done is first raise the awning and then put on the tension arm. If I do that, on one side I can't really extend the tension arm because everything is so tight.

I feel so inadequate

any suggestions?

There is "nylon wheel" available that mounts on the top of the door. That eliminates the awning problem.

And it's cheap too.
