New Airstream - Window Awnings - factory vs. aftermarket?

We're considering ordering vs. buying new off the lot.

If an existing Airstream does not have the optional window awnings, can they be added aftermarket as economically and installed just as well, as ordering them to be installed at the factory?

Probably good either way. But there might be some haggling room on cost with the factory order, not likely with aftermaket install. Ours are factory installed, one of the best options they have because it keeps our Airstream cooler inside, and keeps the fridge compartment cooler as well.

Cheryl... living in AZ, for us the awnings are a must... along with a 2nd AC unit. I just wonder if being installed aftermarket, in a repair shop, they would be installed quite as 'well' as might be done at the factory. And, good point on the potential haggling room if purchased as part of a factory order.

The more we talk, the more I think we're going to have to do a factory order rather than find just what we're looking for on a lot somewhere. (Recliner option, esp.)

We have been in AZ for several months, and the last week we have seen temps above 90. Our Airstream sited towards the northeast with awnings out, some windows open, and the bedroom vent fan running was quite comfortable.

Yes, the weather is heavenly in AZ right now. During the summer month's heat we won't do much RVing in the southwest... that's when we would go to the Northwest or elsewhere for RVing. Or just stay home in Scottsdale. But the rest of the year is practically summer like and very comfortable here.

We did spend summer before last here in the 43' Class A, while we were house hunting. It was quite comfy in the coach, but it has three high power AC units and we ran at least two of them 24/7 during July and August, sometimes all 3 of them. But that's what they're for... to keep us comfortable regardless of the climactic conditions.

If and when we change over to an Airstream for RVing, we're not likely to be RVing in the middle of summer here, but either be at home or traveling somewhere north of here. I'd still like to have window awnings and two AC units in the 30 Flying Cloud, just in case they will come in handy.
