We have Maxxair vent covers but I don't see why any vent cover would prevent running the fan while raining. Unless perhaps the fan was reversed to pull air (and possibly rain) into the Airstream. Or if both vents were open, one fan running and the other not, could it pull rain water in? I don't know, haven't seen it yet.

I suppose there could be a slight risk, if both front and rear fans were running, of building a slight negative air pressure inside the Airstream. Maybe it could pull some water in past window seals but I doubt it.

Pretty much need to close them when it's raining. Even with a awning you can get rain blowing in from the sides, though if it's a calm slow rain the awning does pretty well.
Even without an awning , an awning rail above the window extending a little longer and sealed diverts the water flowing down the roof out to the sides a bit reducing the amount of water getting to the top of the window.

This Is What I Had In Mind - Sort of...

This is more of a deflector than a gutter but it might work.

Aren't those gutter extensions much larger than our gutters?

I have a '63 Overlander and I have the same issue. 1963 was the year they ended the gutter right at the window end, thus all of the water runs right down the rivets. They smartened up the next year and made the gutter extend out an inch more!

To make matters worse, it's the one area that you can' t get at to seal from the inside of the trailer even while doing a shell off.

Let me know it you find something that fits. Otherwise I'm going to have to fabricate some

Rain chains would be a mistake, good stiff wind and they'd scratch!

I was just going to write about those ones in posts 18 & 19. Vintage trailer supply sells them. They're correct for airstream, usually earlier years, but a few inches longer and they should work. VTS has many sizes, and they're not to expensive. Seems like they'd work as long as it wasn't a downpour. Not sure those plastic ones have a place to attach on an AS.
