Door Desperation

Our airstream door requires having to smash yourself into the door like a pro football player while turning the lock for it to lock or unlock properly. It came with an after market lock that is not flush with the door it sticks out. If we remove this lock there is a gaping hole in the door where the lock is meant to be. We have no keys to the original lock and I think it's likely not functional. What's the best solution here?

Your profile says, "Currently looking" so we don't know what make or model your Airstream is. But if it's not vintage, you may be able to order a new lock, with keys, direct from Airstream, or through your nearest Airstream dealer.

Failing that, going along with the lock on the door should be a strike plate on the doorframe that engages the bolt that slides in and out of the lock when you turn the key. Your problem might be solved by adjusting the strike plate to align it properly with the lock's bolt.

We have a vintage 1971 Sovereign. Sorry, I thought it was listed on my profile but I guess not.
