Back window breakage

A word to the wise: if you own an Airstream with a back window that lacks factory prop rods, be careful if you like to prop the back window open. These windows are hinged at the top, and the hinge disconnects from the trailer if the window swings up to a horizontal position. We came back from a day of hiking in Dinosaur NM in Utah and found our back window shattered to smithereinies all over the paved campsite pad. The wind was gusting rather significantly that day, and apparently it blew hard enough to swing the window up to a horizontal position, where it then came free from the trailer and gravity took over. Our dealer is shipping us new glass, which is not cheap.

If you have a back window like this, I recommend you fashion a tether that will keep the window from ever blowing up to a horizontal position. Fishing line, string, or hanger wire would work fine for this.
