Automatic power awning!

Hello, i am about to order a 30 foot int. Airstream and i tought to take the power awning option. I no it is not '' a most have think''. Manueal awning it is ok. But I like the idea to push a button! But I wonder about the realibility of the product. And, if it is open and i have some problem, can i close it manualy?
If someone have some comments post it. Thanks...

The local dealer has just received a 2014 30' International Serenity with that awning option. There are three electric motors involved, one in each lift arm and one on the awning roller. Each arm motor can be operated independently to create slope for water drainage off the awning at one end or the other end.

Failure of any one electric motor when the awning is extended could be a real issue. I did not look at the manual for the awning, but I did not see any easy work around in case of a motor failure.

That is a $3,551 list price option on the 2014 Classic models.

I have read that most RV service calls currently relate to slide outs and power leveling jacks. If this is correct, and it sounds reasonable, I would expect power awnings to be on that list in a few years as they become more common.

When one looks at the relatively little time and effort it takes to put an awning up and down and divides that time into the cost of the option, it appears to me to not give much return on investment . Of course I feel that way about electric tongue jacks also. (but at least you can put an emergency handle on them when they break)

In an emergncy, there is a strap to help run the awning back up against the trailer, but it is a one-way trip. Once you roll it up in this manner, you will need to bring it to be repaired.
