Where does YOUR slinky live?
Vintage trailer people - where do you store your slinky when not in use? Did you have to build a compartment? Pics would be great!
I have no slinky shack on my trailer. Guess I will have to construct one, maybe paint a large PVC pipe with aluminum paint and strap it under the bumper?

Our first trailer didn't have a storage spot for the slinky. My husband did what you are thinking about. He took a large PVC pipe, painted it black and used screw off fittings on it. He then used some sort of metal strapping to attach it to the underbelly.

Slinky storage tubes are available in different lengths at camping stores. I painted mine and slid it crosswise behind my lp tanks. Jim

You don't need a slinky if you use a "Sewer Solution" brand sewer drainage system, it only uses a 10' - 3/4" hose (another 10' extensive can be added when needed) which is rinsed well with each use without the mess.
We been using the same one for five years without problems.

We put the slinky in a rubbermaid tub with lid that goes in the truck bed.

Don't you need epic amounts of water for the Sewer Solution?
I used one once and was left with a giant mess left in my tank! Never again!
We have 2 under belly mounted tubes with caps on both ends.

You can actually drain quite effectively with little or no water. Just break up any obstructions or chunks, and backflush only after the tank is drained - then you'll "produce" the rest of the waste.
Using the little pressure mascerator thingy requires a regular stream of water only if you are flushing uphill. Then you point it down the hose and it creates enough pressure to suck the "stuff" out of the tank.
I fulltime, so I don't ever need a pristine tank - or at least won't have one for more than a few hours/beers. If I were planning to store the Silver Suppository unused for any length of time, I'd use the built-in tank rinsers for a prolonged period, then dump a couple of waste baskets full of water down the throne to really "float the Titanic".
Oh and a great place to store a Sewer Solution is in the duty drywall bucket with some soapy water. Drive 50 miles and it'll be clean as a whistle inside and out. I'm often camping on dirt, and the SS doesn't need a little ramp thingy so it sits on the dirt - after a week earthworms and snails are inhabiting the area when I pick it up.

Same here.... but I'm wondering if I don't need to disinfect the inside of the tub on occasion....

Sewer Solution - 5 gallon bucket, cap full of bleach and a bit of water during transport. Cleans it right up.
Slinky - use the light weight but strong tube with caps available from Camping World. Cost efficient and ready made for installation.

Epic amounts of water is available if needed at most RV dumps, but you actually may need little to none, as Paula described above. In five years (2 1/2 years total full time) we have not had a mess left in the tank.

I guess I need to give mine another chance. I flushed for 30 minutes until it came clear. During the next week I looked down the hole to see the slurry of what was left behind, it was not pretty. I have had great luck with the 4" hose letting it rip! I can always see the white plastic of the tank... Rarely do I even flush! There is a YouTube video I'll have to post showing the effacacy of three dump methods, the sewer solution was at the very bottom of the list, the tornado type tinder was by far the cleanest winner!
No offense to the ss users!

Mine goes in a pvc tube for that purpose riveted underneath the trailer in front of the dump valves. Just pull it out, drop it on the ground, and hook it up. Back in with no fuss or bother. I use one of the orange very stiff heavy duty hoses, Makes it easy to handle.

We have 2 lengths of slinky.
One resides in a slinky storage compartment (black pipe) under the trailer (underbelly) a few feet back from the front.
The other slinky section lives in the back bumper storage compartment.
I have stored them in garbage bags in other storage compartments.

Just a comment for the record. I had a full timer who traveled for a living tell me his best results with the black tank was to always travel with about 3 gallons of fluid in the tank. Never store the camper (although he never did) without liquid in the black tank. This process made sure things stayed "loose" and when reused would allow for the "old" stuff to flow out. I have been using this method for 9 years and it works well. Traveling with liqiud alows for aggitation and complete processing of all materials - nothing stays "high and dry" in the tank.
OK - enough visual. It's a messy process, I always store both the 4" hose and the SS in seperate in a container outside the AS. It's just me. Even with the SS, I travel with a 4" hose in a tube under the AS for use at dumping stations. I usually dispose of the 4" hose (not the fitting) after as I do not want to waste time flushing the hose or dealing with the mess (coward I know). I can get the hose cheap and don't mind.

The black tank flush system and a clear fitting help, too.

Thalweg that is a great idea. I'll have to check the tongue of mine to see how much room I have.
