Waterless P Traps ?

My Overlanders original design has no crossmembers under the bathroom floor in order top to clear the black tank and that poor sheet of plywood (although 3/4" now!) has to support the tub, toilet, blacktank, univolt, batteries, and water heater ! Like they put all the heaviest stuff on the weakest section of floor.
My old floor had an 8" hole cut in the floor under the tub to clear a conventional P trap.
If I can get away with a waterless P trap, not only would the floor be more structurally sound without the giant hole, there would be more room under the floor for a bigger Blacktank and one less entry point to seal off for heat and critters.
Has anybody had any good or bad experiences (or smells) with a waterless trap ?

Actually there is, and Interstates have them. It's not really a P-trap, of course, but it accomplishes the same purpose. Called a Hepvo Waterless Valve (Hepvo Waterless Valve). It's a type of check valve, and can be installed vertically or horizontally, so it's ideal for tight under-floor areas in an Airstream. It stops the odors as well, and since it doesn't retain water, water can't splash out while you're in transit to let odors in, so it's even better than a P-trap in that regard. Add to that the fact that it doesn't have to be winterized because it's normally dry to begin with, and you've got an excellent P-trap replacement.

Oh, and since it's a one-way valve, water can't back up in it if you overfill the tank.

Protaganist, Wow ! you've got me sold , if you've got no odors, thats what I was concerned of. I never even considered the winterization , backsplash, or overflow benefits. Thank You !

The Hepvo valve may require occasional maintenance or need replacement when the membrane fails, so access to it is required. There would still be a need for a hole in the floor if there is no access from above.

Or an access hole in the belly pan to provide access from below. Take your pick.

No worries, My drain is accessible via a removable panel alongside the tub. So theres a membrane that can wear out ? Any idea if this membrane is a type of one way fabric or is it like a flapper ? Not that it matters, just curious.

We installed a Hepvo waterless P trap on our tub and have been happy with it. It is accessible through removable panel on the bellypan.

Just bought two of them. They make sense to me. You can install them horizontally or vertically, and up to 6' away from the fixture. Mine will be behind the hatch.

No post. The ones I bought from Hepvco meet building standards for homes. I do not like the idea of cutting yet another hole in my floor to support an antiquated technology.
