water tank valves

I have recently purchased a 2012, 25' Eddie Bauer and I'm perplexed about draining the fresh water tanks. The first time I drained the tank, I simply opened two, red handled valves near the roadside and accessed between the tires. Now when I tried to drain the full tanks, I opened the same valves and nothing but drips came out. It wasn't until I turned on the pump that it forced water out of the tanks. I'm confused and wonder what I'm missing. Why won't the valves simply drain when I open them?

The EB model may be a little different than my AS, but there should be two metal low point drain valves under or near the freshwater tank for draining the hot and cold water lines. An additional plastic petcock should be on the low side of the freshwater tank for draining the tank itself.

Could they be clogged with sediment? Was the water extremely hard where it lived with the PO? When I picked mine up in Tucson, the aerators were full of green junk. I made the mistake of pumping the tank 'dry' by using the faucets instead of letting it drain out. Not sure what is happening with yours, but crappy water is what happened to mine.

Thanks. Yes, I'm opening the two valves under the tanks and nothing came out unless I pumped it out. Water is clean. I simply drained the first time I did it but this time I had to pump. Wierd!

Water will come out fast when you're connected to a water source. Much more slowly or not at all if you are not hooked up to water. You're draining the lines, not the tank.

I am confused. What are you trying to drain? The freshwater tank itself? The waste tanks? The water lines?

Sounds like your draining only the water lines , and maybe there not draining like the last time you did it is because no air can get in just open a tap in the kitchen sink and the lines will drain ,but this is not how to drain the fresh water tank .
