water pump replacement

Hi all; purchased a 74 Excella 500 resto that was started by previous owner and was frankly botched. When mounting new water pump i know the best place is level with tank outlet, but i have no space for the inlet screen and the pump under the floor. Will it still work if mounted on the floor in the sink cabinet or will that be too much lift to self prime?

I have a SHURFlo pump (3 years old) with the SHURflo brand inlet filter screen and it sits on the floor by the outlet to my fresh tank. When I unscew the cup there is just enough room to remove the cup and screen to drain it when I winterize. If you have SHURflo components you might double check.

There is enough suction on the intake side of the pump so it can be located above the tank, probably by 2 or 3 feet. So, locating it a few inches above the tank will be no problem.
