water pump just runs but doesn't suction

I am assuming it is time to RIP my water pump. It was working all summer and now I am on the road. The pump just does the little motor running thing but no other action. The pump was replaced in 2006 from the original 1997. Primed over and over, but the pump is not sucking from either tank, hot or normal. Is it time to get a new pump? That is my thought.

New one, they're not that costly in the overall cost of things.

The pump might not be the problem - there might be an air leak somewhere. I'm going through a similar situation and I eliminated the pump as a problem by removing it and testing it with a bucket. It worked fine. I figured out what my problem was and it wasn't the pump so at least I saved wasting $200 on a new one.

Good luck!

John

P.S. Here's my tale of woe: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f445...es-141995.html

Red face Problem fixed......

Soooooo......... the reason my pump was not pumping....... The tank drain was not fully closed. So for over the course of time that I filled the tank and finally hit the road. So by the time I was actually using the trailer, the tank was on its last gallons. Just enough of a drip, that I had an empty water tank. So of course I took for granted that the water tank was full and it was not at this point. Soon...... do I get the dumb award of the year?

Youll need to practice a great deal more to win THAT award

I got mine about 1980 when I was pretty new to Airstreams. It would take too long to tell, but it was well deserved.

I had same problem. I inspected the incoming line, and found a cracked housing around the filter. It was sucking air, and not priming. $6 easy repair!

Have you checked the stainless steel screen at the water intake to see that it's not fully clogged?

had that happen and once i was finally was able to extend my arm far enough to grasp the filter assembly, i found it loose, a quick turn and it was back in action. i suppose it might have vibrated lose or perhaps it was never tightened in the first place. but all is well after that minor inconvenience.

I had an algae problem - swamp water contaminated the well - a little pool shock treatment and all was good except that the filter was clogged. Took it out, cleaned it, and reinstalled. Worked for about 3 days and then started hammering and finally quit. I assumed I had another glob of algae even though I had some heavy bleach in the tank...

Went to Alumalina and Overlander63 found that the filter had worked loose again & was sucking air. Guess I've lost some hand strength.

Red face

Add me to the Feeling Really Dumb crowd. I filled my tank, pulled into campground slot and turned on pump to fill hot water tank. Two days later I couldn't figure out why I was out of water. (Hint - my water heater holds 6 gal).
