Thread Sealant on Flair-It PEX Connections???

Well it is about time to get started on the actual assembly of my new PEX plumbing and have a questions. Should places such as the hot water tank connections have some type of thread sealant on it? If so what should I use?

I just did a complete replumb with PEX . The salesman at Lowes sold me a liquid to put on the threads going into heater etc. He said it was better than the white tape. I used it on all pipe threads and no leaks so far. It came in a can with a brush like the pvc glue. A little messy but easier to use than the white tape.
