replumbing help

I am going to take out all the copper and install pex.
I would like some advice on what did others do to replace the pressure regulator/check valve and overflow valve.

When I replumbed my trailer I just left out the overpressure regulator and overflow valve.

I got a brass check valve with 1/2 pipe threads and that worked out fine. I also put one on the output of the water pump even though I was told the pump has one built in so you don't need one.

I just use the pressure regulator on the hose now and as long as I don't forget its fine

Actually my improved pluming can probably take normal pressures anyway. Turned out nice for me. Nice to get rid of the PO's hoses and clamp repairs

Safari tim, have you traveled much sense te CPVC upgrade. i have been concerned about cracking from road vibration, pot holes and alike. am i just being sucked into the everything in a recreational vehicle has to cost 3x as much??

Any one else used PVC / CPVC in your rigs.

do any manufacturers use?

the PO had hose clamp fever in my 31 as well and there are a lot of little drips so it needs to go, just not sure the best solution.

I am VERY much in the minority for using CPVC. I don't want to start another war over it Check
here for more posts on it.

I have towed only the last season with it. About 18 hours of driving time and no problems yet. I do have it strapped down at some points just like the copper was.

The CPVC is pretty thick so I don't think it would crack easily.

Don't use pvc though, that is not for drinking water.

safari Tim thanx for the info , great site you have on your restoration project.
I went to HD today and saw a pretty nice manifold unit
that you can use with pex to go to each individual hot and cold outlet, The only concern i have is if matters how high the unit is off the floor for the water pump.has anybody else used one on their restoration project?

who told you pvc sch 40 was not suitable for drinking water ? and why not use kitec for you fresh water lines ? they have that also at home depot !

It's my understanding that cpvc is made with virgin vinyl and has no impurities. Pvc on the other hand does and cannot be certified as drinking water safe. Water does leach out materials in piping because of the many minerals in it. Pex is great because it can withstand freezing without bursting.(up to a certain point of course). The problem with pex is the tools to do it properly. You may want to talk with a plumber about the differences. They all have good and bad points to use and assembly.

CPVC is Clorinated PVC made for potable hot and cold drinking water.

I don't know the specific reasons but there is a problem running drinking water through standard pvc which when we all think about it is usually for sprinkler systems.

Anyway, the hotdog wagon at Home Depot in town had a problem with their drink dispenser. They had to shut it down because the store had run PVC for the water supply and someone stopped them from selling soda until the PVC was replaced. I had to have a hotdog with out a pepsi that day

In my neck of the woods, we use PVC for DWV (drains/waste/vent) piping, and use PE (polyethylene) for sprinkler systems.
-but we're mostly germans and swedes..

One thing I am NOT is a plumber for sure.

But then again, this trailer has made me do many things I'm not.
