Re-plumbing complete
I just finished the water pressure tests on my
complete re-plumb and have one word SHARKBITE!!!
The Quest fittings leaked like crazy and one of the
older quest drain drain valves had popped in the
previous freeze incident. I had used quest fittings on
the water-heater connections and drain valves. I
stopped the leaks by replacing the quest fittings with
more Sharkbite and removed the one piece of copper
pipe that I had retained as a connection to the
water-heater.
In fairness to Quest, part of the problem might be my
plumbing technique. Sharkbite you just mark the pipe
at about 1 inch and push it until it reaches pretty
close to that mark and clicks into place. The Quest
takes a bit more fiddling, with removable metal ring
and compression type seal. I used Quest drain valves
because they didn't stock them in Sharkbite here. But
I am probably going to order some to have in place
when the mood strikes me to replace the plastic ones
or they freeze and pop.
cheers, bill b. (Your mileage may vary)
