Question on Inca holding tank fitting covers

Recently I received new tanks from Inca. These tanks come with spin fittings which have a solid plastic cover at the bottom of the fitting. I am assuming these covers are there to prevent anything getting into the tank during shipping? Can I "punch" these out or are they meant to be pushed/forced out (down into the tank) when the threaded fitting is screwed on to the spin fitting? Probably a silly question, but I don't want to damage anything on the expensive tanks. Any experience here would be appreciated.

I just cut them out with a sharp knife. Easy-peasy!
