PUR filtration system

Here's a question from Dopey (me). I changed the filter under the sink. A PUR 5999 or such. I'm not getting up to get the number.

Mistake #1. I pulled off the hoses from the unit thinking they had something to with filter changing. I noticed there is only one spring wire on both connectors and there should be two I think after looking at the parts diagram online. Where can I get those?

2nd Mistake maybe. I noticed when I put the "water connection out" to the faucet hose back on the filter, it seems sloppy. If I had water available I'd check it out, but not until next week. The question is: Is there supposed to be an O ring on the little (you know, the thing sticking up out of the filter housing like a p...)

That's all for now. You'd think after trailering for 45+ years, I'd read the directions first, but there are none.
