Plumbing Emergency

I hope someone can help direct me to helpful information.... I am on Holiday in Savannah and just had my shower fail..... I was beginning to take a shower and when I pulled the knob to start shower it came of in my hand.....it is best I can tell the original valve....it is only one knob that controls hot and cold....it is a 1973 Ambassador.... I can push the valve back in and stop the flow of water.... But when I pull it to activate shower it pulls all way out again.... I am using my cellphone to post this VIA Android app.....so its hard to search for information....if anyone can tell me how to repair this or direct me to information it would be awesome......thank you

Look carefully at the valve in your hand. Is there a set screw someplace on it that screws in a bit and tightens on the valve stem coming from the wall???????...........I bet there is.....probably an allen type screw way down in the valve???????.....Look at the valve stem coming out of the wall......are there threads?........does it seem there are indentations from where a set screw made "marks"?????????????

Good luck and God bless.......Dennis

Look at the handle very carefully and see if there is a hole with threads that would line up with the shaft, if the set screw Dennis was refering to fell out instead of just getting loose, take handle to local ACE and they can fit a new one. most have allen wrench opening instead of phillips or flat head bolt.

Moen? Lifetime free replacement. Others? Lowes and Home Depot have an amazing assortment of replacment parts - maybe they can help.
