No shower hot water

On my 05 classic I have one of those Moen single handel fixtures. When we rotate the handel on it goes through cold water to hot. If I rotate all the way to hot the water flow slows dramaticly and at no position can we get a good hot shower. Anyone dealt with this before? Im wondering if the cartridge has a scald guard feature or if there is trash in th cartridge. Can the cartridge be swapped for a different one? The hot water out of the kitchen and bath faucets is really hot.

If we can assume the hot water line goes to the fixture, and that could be a question with todays quality control, the problem is within the fixture. Most fixtures of the single handle type have two port inside and a barrel that moves across these two port to mix the temperature.

First thing would be to open up the fixture and see if things look logical inside. Look for debris in one of the ports. Make sure the barrel can in fact rotate enough to open the hot water port. I say this because many single handle fixtures have temperature limit adjuster built in them. If you find a notched ring just under the handle that controls the hot water flow and thus temperature. Each notch is generaly 3 degrees increase or decrease.

Yes! I just went through the exact same situation in May 07. I took it to the authorized AS shop here in Lakewood, California. They removed the cover plate and yes, there is a filter in the Moen fixture. It got clogged up with debris. I guess water at the various camping sites is pretty hard. Must have been a lot of settlement in the water heater. I don't think they empied out the HW tank. They just cleaned the filter. This is even more reason to have a filtration system from the RV site to your AS.

They cleaned out the filter and it's working better then ever! Yes, I think it can be replaced if desired. I'd have never known that there is a filter in that system. I'm glad it happen while still under warranty.

Hope that helped.

The PO of my unit had installed the MOEN insert backwards and it acted similar to your description. I removed the handle, lifted off a chrome cover, pulled out a wire clip from the side then removed the insert (cartridge??). Rotate the insert 180 degrees and as they say, assembly is the reverse of the proceedure.
