No Hot Water Please Help

I have a 1989 Excella. The water heater lights and stays lit for a decent amount of time. A half or so. When I turn on the faucets on the hot water side no water comes out. This is through-out the airstream, kitchen and bathroom. When I use the valve near the water heater to divert the water cold water comes out of the hot water side. I know there is hot water in the tank I just can't get it to come out of the shower or faucets. Do you have any ideas on how to fix the problem?

Got a picture of your water heater bypass valves? That might help us answer your question. Typically, there are either two or three valves to bypass the water heater. Both, or all three, need to be in the correct position to get water both into and out of the water heater. I suspect that one of the valves is in the wrong position.

It sounds like you have valves used to bypass the water heater (when winterizing) and you do not have the valves in the correct position for summer time use.
Follow the hot and cold water lines out of the water heater. There will be a valve on each of these lines. They should be open. There is a 3rd valve that connects the hot and cold water lines together. This valve should be closed for summer time use.

There is only one big silver and blue valve. When I get a chance I will post picture. If this helps I tried it in both positions and still no luck.
