New Fresh water tank installation

I have a 1976 Tradewind LandYacht which i love. I am full timing and i have done a ton of restorations while i travel.

I am debating as to whether or not i should complete the following replacement on my own or hire someone while in AZ this winter.

I need a new fresh water tank. There is a leak, a really bad leak, so i need to know what size tank and hopefully i can get some help or do it on my own.

It is one of the final projects i need to complete until the trailer is complete.

Has anyone completed this project and if so are there any images.

Find the tank location and gain access to the area (inside cabinet, under gaucho, etc). Either measure tank or find a label indicating dimensions and/or manufacturer. If it is not a custom tank you can probably get a replacement. Hopefully the trailer was not built around it :-)

I believe there are exact replacements available from AS dealers. I have not kept up buy INland RV had them

I pulled mine out on a 73 Tradewind and clean it up, tested and reinstalled. I believe yours would be the same.

They are held in with some framing under trailer one bar is removable. It sits on a piece of 1 1/8 inch plywood that is covered by a sheet of aluminum. I got it out by attaching a large eyebolt in it and attaching a come along and working it out. I will post pictures when I get home tonight

tallredboned might be facing same issue I had...

My '76 Overlander had the tank with the open square cutout in the middle (like a square donut) for a different style mount. I believe '75 was the last year of the 1" plywood shelf that slides out. In '76 they went to a galvanized pan bolted around the perimeter, with a big square plate that bolts up and holds up the middle.

My tank was also badly cracked. I dont recall that I could locate that style of tank either. Even if I "could" find it, the galvanized pan was disintegrated with rust. Fab'ing up a new pan would have been a chore in itself because of the design.

I found that the pre-1976 tank as shown above, is one that you can still find and buy new, as it looks to still be in use on a bunch of other models as well. (It may be on the '80s as stated above?)

I happened to stumble across a used one that was clean and I fabricated up the mounting style of the pre-1976 with the 1" plywood shelf. It was a pretty big job, but I did a shell off and did a bunch of metal work to the frame so it was easier. It could be done from underneath, but I can imagine it will be costly.

I think my tank is like the overlander.
But now i need yo find a new one.

If your tank is leaking, then the only solution is its replacement. I think water tank once start leaking have no repair option, you need to call an experienced plumber for proper water tank Installation.

A good repair place near Philadelphia is Colonial Airstream in Lakewood NJ. Perhaps an hour away.
