Installing a new toilet help

Hi Folks,

I suspect installing a toilet in a trailer is pretty easy but I am hoping I could get a step-by-step instructions. How is it different than a toilet in a house? Is it the rubber cone instead of a wax seal? If anyone had a picture of how they ran the final water connection to the toilet from the feed line I would love to see it. If no picture a description would be great. Does it bolt down the same way?

The only real difference is the seal. It's not a wax seal. Everything else is the same. Be sure to put a shutoff valve on the water supply.

While all of the RV toilets install the same, they do come in different sizes, all though minute. You wanna be sure the lid and seat don't hit the back wall and not stay up.

Tony, the most important thing to consider when changing out the toilet is the dimensions of the new one. The distance from the center of the black tank opening to the back wall is critical. It is easy to remove your current toilet, usually just a couple of bolts and the water line.

There is no wax ring so nothing to replace provided your current one is not damaged. As far as the connections go, I used pex and a sharkbite like connector found at the local HD or Lowes.

I put in a Dometic 310 and it was the best upgrade I have ever made. The porcelain bowl is the way to go.

As many of us age with our Airstreams, we sometimes experience some challenges in the physical aspects of our needs. At home I upgraded one of our toilets to ADA height to better accommodate getting up and down from the toilet.

In the Airstream we were happy with the existing toilet but it's lowness did provide some issues. Rather than replace the entire unit, we found that Thetford makes a riser that gives us 2 1/2 inches of additional height. It comes with all gaskets and bolts and the only modification I had to make was to provide some extension to the water line that feeds the toilet.

One thing to be aware of in replacing a toilet or putting in a riser is the fact that clearances might be affected. In the case of my Classic, the door of the cabinet next to the toilet just cleared the old toilet with the seat and lid down. Not so anymore which means the seat and lid must now be up to open the storage cabinet door. We don't access that storage compartment much so it wasn't a big issue.

We replaced our Thetford Bravura (OEM) with a Dometic 320 high rise with sprayer about 9 months ago. As the previous posts indicate, BE SURE of your dimensions/clearances! Our install took me 30 minutes AFTER I finally found the correct 'shark bite' connector for our pvc pipe coming out of the wall connecting to the SS braided connector to the toilet.

This 320 is a DREAM! We never realized how low the Bravura was.
