Hott rod

I was looking around the camping store yesterday and saw this product. It is an electric heating element that screws into the drain hole of a gas water heater. That way you can use either one. Is this a good thing to do?
I am fixing my trailer to live in while I am home on the weekends. It is a 1975 28ft Argosy. I plan to be plugged in and using electric for everything but my stove. I was planing to install a small 6 gallon electric household water heater.
What would be the better way to go?
The trailer heater is an Atwood.

We had a '93 Airstream with an Atwood gas water heater. We also installed a Hott Rod electric heating element and used it trouble free for over 10 years.
Although I can't advise which way to go - if the Atwood heater tank is good, you can still add the Hott Rod and have the option of using gas or electric.

The hott rod and similar devices are low wattage (typically 400w) and take a long time to heat water. Thermostatic control tends to be poor although this may depend on installation. Some people have raised safety questions around the typical routing of the cord.

Atwood makes a water heater that heats with both electric and gas, which has a 1200w element. I would suggest that as a better alternative.
