Fresh Water Low Point Drain on 2010 FC 28'

Dear Fellow A/S Enthusiasts:

On a recent trip, on our way to a spot w/no fresh water, I filled up the fresh water tank. When we arrived, I saw water gushing from the broken white plastic shutoff valve - quick thinking led me to removing the bubble gum from my mouth and plugging the leak and then finishing the repair with black gorilla tape.

Funny - before leaving I thought while looking at the plastic shutoff valve that I didn't like the design and how hard it is to reach the handle - maybe a premonition?

I found one on Ebay that is made of Aluminum and has a tap drain vs. the cheap "switch" design.

From other threads on this subject, it seems the engineers at Airstream didn't design an access panel or long enough hose to remove & replace the drain tap.

Anyone with experience in this department, please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks much,

Ken Tuvman

Not sure on your 28'er, Ken, but on mine, I can get to the short hose connecting the valve to the tank through an opening in the floor under the removeable closet floor. It won't be easy...have to be a bit of a contortionist to get to the hose clamps, but it can be done.

Will see if that works - why do these guys use such a cheap valve & then make it next to impossible to R&R?

Thanks, Rich

I'm interested in purchasing the aluminum unit I saw on Ebay so I won't have to deal with replacing again!!!

He sells model to accomodate a 3/8" or 1/2" hose - do you happen to know hose diameter? My unit is a 2010 FC 28'

An aluminum water valve under the trailer may corrode and stick badly. I wonder if there are any made of brass.

Do your valve's look like these?.....

The brass petcock's I keep lubed with silicone grease, and the white FW drain with silicone spray. The rear low water drain valve looks like the water heater by-pass valve's and is in the curbside rear storage compartment.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think 1/2".

The one on EBay looks unbreakable - buy this and another seller has the drain valve

Looks like a much better set up than the plastic units
