If you are still on the fence about how to proceed and haven't screwed up your courage to go after the fork from the top side I offer this very old Sven and ole joke:

Ole goes out one day to use the outhouse, and he finds Sven there. Sven has his wallet out, and he's throwing money down into the hole of the outhouse. Ole asks, "Uff da! Sven, watcha doin' there, fella? You're throwing the five dollar bill and the ten dollar bill down into the hole of the outhouse! Whatcha doin' that for?" Sven answers, "Well, when I pulled up my trousers I dropped a nickel down there—and I'm not going down into that mess for just a nickel!"

Moral of the story? Throw the knife and spoon in as well.

The toilet won't have a wax ring. There is a seal. A much better design than a wax ring. In case of a backup do to the tank being full.
Not sure how to take the tooth brush story.

Many thanks to all who replied to my cry of desperation. Not only were the comments helpful but they were entertaining as well. And, now, so not as to keep folks in suspense, I successfully latched on to the fork (actually it turned out to be a spoon) with a magnet as several suggested. If the picture I've attached turns out successfully, you'll note there is an extension, and it kept me from having to go on a deep-sea fishing expedition.
So thanks again!

That Spoon Has a Great Future!

Be sure to put a discrete mark on it. Then at rallies there could be a prize for the person who finds that he or she has eaten with the famous spoon.
Or, put a big bow on it and take it to the next Picacho Peak Rally for the White Elephant Gift Exchange!
The possibilities are endless!
