External port from water tank

I have this opening on the outside of my Airstream that I think connects to some pipes that feed into the bottom of my water tank but those structures are missing so I am not sure. Can someone give me some guidance? What is this used for?

It's a fresh water fill. It does not appear to me to be original to the trailer.
