Enclosed waste valves?

I'm looking to buy late model 25-28 FlyingCloud or Classic and have noticed some have black and gray-water waste valves enclosed with the heated tanks and others have them on the outside of the trailer. Were there particular years, models, or floorplans for these different valve configurations or was it an option?

I never knew this. I have a 28-Flying Cloud and mine are outside. It will be interesting to get others input

My 2015 27FB FC are enclosed. I too noticed that some models had them outside.

This came up as a comment recently and I've been looking to see the way it was done, but have not found a coach that way. Really would like a skid plate incorporated into the insulation. Still looking for ideas. Pat

So as an example, in the classifieds there's 2013 and a 2015 25 FC fb twin models with external black and gray water valves behind the wheels of the trailer. On Woodland RVs site there is a 2010 and 2016 FC fb queen with internal valves with the discharge ahead of the wheels. In the classifieds there is a 2007 Classic 27 with fb and queen and it has the internal valves with discharge in front of wheels. So is it a difference between queen and twin layouts?

My 2000 Safari valves are external, not good when in freezing weather. The sewer outlet is so low, it sometimes is difficult to get slope on the drain hose. I have broken one valve backing into a six in high curb.

My 1999 Excella (and all four of my prior Excella trailers) has internal valves. Much better elevation and less likely to freeze. But, it is much more difficult to repair an internal valve.

It looks like on 25fb the valves are in front of the axles like my 2008 Classic 25fb and on the 25A (rear beds) the valves are behind the axles. It doesn't matter if the bed is queen or twin. I checked out the photos of 2016 models at Colonial.

I would actually prefer the valves being outside as we don't winter camp and it would be easier to replace them if needed. If I need to replace my valves Airstream doesn't provide access panels so it is more difficult.

I think all the 30' Classics are enclosed.

My 2016 30 FC is enclosed with the drain aft of the wheels (Queen bed), so I don't think it is related to that. Most of the recent trailers I've seen are enclosed. I have no idea what the effectivity on that is. Perhaps a call to AS might break the code

My 1986 25' Sovereign the valves are inside in front of the axle, rear bed, center bath.

I would guess it has to do with how the center tanks are setup, getting around the axles.
