Draining the fresh water tank????
Have a 1976 Airstream 29' Ambassator . I have two water valves in the trunk area, that are drain valves ( per the owners manual). My question: These two valves have nothing what so ever to do with the holding tank, is that right??? If so, how does one drain the holding tank? Surely there is another way besides simply running the pump till the tank is empty.
I'm assuming the two valves are for draining both the hot and cold plumbing. Is there a drain valve for the fresh water tank???

Try This
The fresh water tank drain valve is likely very near the fresh tank and probably on the bottom of the trailer. I don't have much experience with trailers other than mine but it may provide a guide that will help you.
Where is the fresh water fill on your rig? It's probably in a trap door on the side of the trailer. It's also probably near the axles to keep the trailer pitching wildly with a full tank of fresh water. Now look on the bottom of the trailer in/on the belly pan area. I suspect there is a valve of some sort in the area near the fresh water fill.
My fill door is just above the tires. My drain valve is located between the tires at the frame / belly pan.

Mike,
Look under the sink, slightly to the left. There should be a hole in the floor with three taps in it. Two are low drain points for the plumbing, the third is the fresh water tank.

I have a '76 25' International rear bath, same situation. Should I be looking for the same thing, and is it inside the trailer? Manual is very little help.

My older trailer was an 81. And the only way to drain the fresh water tank was to run the pump dry. The pump was under the false floor in the closet, and the factory had installed a valve that was plumbed through the bottom of the tank pan. It was a pain the butt.

The fresh water drain for our "72 rear bath was in the kitchen under the sink/stove area. It did NOT drain when we turned the valve, but we quickly discovered that the drain tube was plugged. A quick foray with a stick took care of the problem but it drained for several hours before all the water was finally out. It had sat full for a looooooong time (like a couple of years, maybe). Not the best situation. Also be aware that the drain comes out the side of the tank, not the bottom. It looks to be virtually impossible to get ALL the water out of the tank, unless you modify (we are).

I finally gave up on the notion of a drain valve , or plug for my1976 29 ft. rear bath. I simply turned on the water pump, and ran it dry. I had an old motorhome that was equipped with a valve near the tank that you simply opened and it worked very well. Too bad the Airstream has no provision that I can find..
