I think I've been to every web site there is that has pre-made holding tanks and I still can't find the size that I need. Has anybody done the legwork already to find the company that isn't going to rip my lips off to have a custom tank made.

My lips are still attached...although the custom tanks cost about $400-500 a piece not including shipping. Not too bad - a "standard" black tank for our '64 GT would cost about $450 too...

A custom tank means a custom mold. Rotational molding of plastic tanks, within itself, is not a big deal. But to make sure the plastic powders and then the molten plastic don't sling all over the place, is another matter.

Your black tank is available.

What size are you looking for, I assume, a gray or water tank?

I'm looking for two tanks that will be plumbed together separated by a cross member. Both will be of equal size at 52" X 21" X 4". I want all the tanks and plumbing within the confines of the belly pan.

That's what we are doing with the grey water tanks shown above. The black tank (the curved one) will sit above the floor.

I considered replacing my fresh water tank and was seeing prices in the $400 to $500 range as well. (It turns out, mine didn't need replacing thanks to a great tip from Chuck). At any rate, I found that I could have a stainless steel tank custom made by a local shop for about the same money.

With your wonderful skills, could you make your own? (Stainless, that is)

We are forbid to weld in our hanger by local codes, plus I don't have access to a tig welder to even do it at home. It didn't even occur to me bend one up out of stainless and take it to a local shop to weld up. I'll have to check out stainless prices. Thanks for planting the seed.

Not necessarily...ours are 1/4" sheets of polypropolene with heat welded seams, not molded.

Shari, I haven't seen an update on yours in awhile, how's it progressing. I also don't see a toilet mounting flange on your black tack. Are you waiting on a final fit before it's added, and how is it installed?

That's cuz there's no real updates...

Since you were here, we had a slab poured and built our gates for the back. Then had a few "house projects" we had to take care of and Mr.InsideOut sprained his back and has been flat on his back (or should be!) and on meds for about two weeks now. We have the welder coming next Saturday, to fix the step, add an outrigger and replace the rear cross member. Then we will be back to rockin' & rollin'....everything(?) from there on out we will do ourselves. Kinda disappointed we weren't abe to take advantage of this long weekend...oh well! Nothing to do until the welding is done and he couldn't fit us in until the 1st. We are having Bart from Timeless Travel come by & do it...he ought to know what he's doing, you think? Worth the wait ~

Yep, we waited on the toilet flange until we can get an exact location...there is someplace here in town that will add it, but I don't recall the name right now. I think it is friction welded in place...either that or "magic".

Oh yeah, we brought Maxwell home this afternoon, but it's getting dark, so we'll park him tomorrow...first time in a tight spot with both of them back there & we don't want to be rushed.

It's a rubber grommet. You just cut or drill the correct size hole anywhere on the top of the tank and "muscle" the bottom flange of the grommet through the hole. I bought mine HERE, but I'm sure you could get them from most anyone that sells these tanks. They are available to fit 1 1/2", 2" and 3" pipe. They run between $5-$10.

An Aluminum holding tank? What are you goign to coat the inside so it does not corrode? For that matter what are you going to coat the outside?

I have broken off the same flange that connectes the comode to the black water tank. Can this be used to repaire my tank?

I sure don't see why not... give the folks at PPL a call. They were very helpful when I ordered my tanks.

Ronco will make any tank with fittings where ever you want them at a very reasonable price. I had two holding tanks made to fit under the side decks of my trawler. I sent them a sketch, they sent me back a price with the sketch and they were perfect. RV Water Holding and Water Tanks - Ronco Plastics
They may also have a stock tank that fits your needs in their online catalog.
