City water inlet plumbing

Hi All,

I recently installed a sureflo city water inlet and it says to use high pressure flexible tubing for at least 1 foot before connecting to rigid plumbing. Can anyone confirm that using the same type of braided tubing used for the freshwater tank pump would work? In the instructions it looks like they are using something different so I just want to make sure that would still work. If not can someone please clarify exactly what they think should be used here. Thanks!

Should be fine with anything from home depot. On newer models the fitting actually attaches directly to the PEX and some people have put a length of flexible tubing in to avoid the 'solid' connection that can cause the inlet to crack and leak. That's on my list, but not high up as I virtually never have hookups, I use the pump even when in a place with water...just keep the tank filled. The shur-flow has a pressure reducing valve in it, but to be safe a lot of people add another at the spigot or at the inlet to be safe.

Their instructions may also be to prevent stress if someone should connect a rigid water filter right at the inlet.

I believe from my experience residual water in the inlet freezing is the culprit, not PEX flex. PEX is some what flexible and freeze proof.

Be cautious with City Water on when unattended. When we lived on our boat we saw numerous other boats sink when left & sometimes a worker would open the valve at the dock thinking that they were doing you a favor after performing work.
We only use the 12 Volt Pump because of this but then others have no issues.
