I don't use RV toilet paper, and never have in 20 years of RVing. Buy the cheaper 2 ply paper: put a sheet in a jar of water, and shake it up. If the paper shreds and dissolves (doesn't hold together) it's good to use in the holding tank. The "strong but soft" or "ultra" papers will hold together too much and may be hard to rinse out of your black water tank. We've never had a problem with paper clogging our tank. Also, make sure you have water in your tank when you start flushing stuff down it. Not enough "liquid" may clog your tank also. Hope that helps.

We use Angel Soft I think it is and the wife buy's it at the YELLOW STORE(Dollar General) we use the same thing here at home. If the package says SAFE FOR SEPTIC SYSTEMS you should be good. One easy way to tell is take one sheet(preferably clean) put it in a glass of water, shake with a lid of course. If it breaks up into small pieces then you are good to go. (No pun intended) .Actually anything that breaks up easily will give you no problem. We dont buy special paper for the rv its a waste.

That's why I always pick up a couple of New York City or Los Angeles phone books when in town...all those great single ply pages....

Also...you can't beat Sams Club, Members Mark type moist wipes for those tender bottoms...greatest invention since sliced bread!

Just don't flush em' down the old RV toilet...you'll need a separate waste basket to collect em'...

Karen,
I buy Scott single ply. Septic safe. Never had a problem with it in my trailer. I usually start with a couple of gallons of water in my black tank. Keeps things moist and prevents sticking.

Use Any Commercial Paper

All commercial toilet papers that I know of will disintegrate in septic tanks. I know of no reason to buy special toilet paper. I work as a regulator and one of the programs I oversee is the septage disposal in the southern part of Wisconsin. Toilet paper clogging a drain field is something none of the various County Sanitarians have ever mentioned to me.

Thank you all for your responses. The answer are all helpful, especially the one about having a couple of gallons of water in the black tank.

Hi, so if what you say is true, I can use Kirkland toilet paper from Costco. It says "Safe for septic systems", but nothing about RVs.

I just did the shaken jar test on my TP (Costco's Kirkland brand) and it fell apart, so I guess we're good to go! (Pun intended)
