It is like a drawer - it pulls straight out. Looks like yours has the tabs to pull it out and lock broken off. You might want to start shopping for a new water fill thingie. Chances are this one is sort of busted.
If you can grab onto anything that sticks out from the center round part and yank straight out, it might open, revealing it's intricate insides....

Cool!!! Something 'new' for me!

Hey, really neat!

I haven't yet seen one of those before. I wouldn't have known how to open it either! Now I do! Kudos Uwe.

Good luck on the 'holding water' situation. Replacement too!

Axel

Since the tabs are already broken off, drill a pilot hole in the center, screw in a large headed sheet metal screw part way, grab the head of the screw with a vice grips, pull and wiggle until the round center portion slides out. Sand and dirt has most likely gotten between the sliding parts. 35-year old ABS plastic will probably break, so plan on replacing with a new part. Look for a better designed one at a good RV parts store. You may have to cut a little larger hole in the side of the trailer (AFTER you find a new one!), but there are styles that fill much easier than the original one. Check that the hose from the fill to the tank will fit on the new part before installation - there have been some size changes over the years. Darol

Neat little drawer, ain't it?
The water fill is available from standard RV supply shelves - replace it so you have a clean water supply. Plus, the new ones you can lock for security.
