Post 1977 23' Safari Plumbing System

Hi all,
Any chance someone out there has the service manual pages showing the Land Yacht drainage system schematic? Would appreciate a scanned or digital image if possible. We've got some BAD smells coming from under the bathroom sink area and the bathroom closet area (see my thread under General Repairs). So far we have filled and drained all tanks, hosed water through the roof vent into black and grey holding tanks to check for clogged pipes, drained again, and can't find anything wrong...but it still stinks! The problem just started today at the end of our 3rd weekend trip. Our trailer didn't come with a service manual--I'm going to order a photocopy, but we leave for a 10-day trip next Sunday. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kate

Kate,
I am afraid that you might have trouble with your toilet or black tank.
There might be a leak at the toilet flange, or a problem with the dump valve, perhaps even a defective holding tank.
A close inspection of the toilet system with a bright flashlight might reveal the cause of your unpleasant odors.
Take a close look, and post your findings. Someone will surely chime in and help you solve the problem.

If your plumbing matches that on the posted schematic, I'd check the vent pipe's connection to the black tank...you can see it in the closet way back there in the corner. make sure that is securely attached. another thought is the toilet itself: is the bowl holding water? if that seal is not closing up properly, and water leaks into the black tank, that means air can (and will) escape up into the bathroom. The groove that the "blade" slides into can get clogged w/ tp or other gunk, preventing it from closing all the way. it can be cleaned out w/ a bent coat hanger.

Smile Thanks Guys!

John G - thanks a million for the schematic--I'm sure it's the one we need and it printed quite clearly. Chuck & Uwe - thanks for the suggestions--I'll pass the info on to my husband....I do the research and he does the work (but I'm learning). I'll post when we find the source of the smell (or if we need more help!).

Thanks again,
Kate
