Propane Gas lines exposed - 1968?

Hi,
I am undertaking the restoration of the frame and changing out all the water and propane lines. My 1968 Globetrotter has the propane lines exposed to the elements and on hangers outside the bottom wrapping. This can't be correct. Can anyone give me their opinion? I intend to hang them inside through the crossmember frames. If I am right, are there rubber grommets available for hanging these 5/8" pipes? Also, the entire area under the floor was spray foamed. Thought they did not do that at the factory. Seems solid though. Thanks again.

The propane lines do run on the outside of the belly pan supported by a few clamps just as you described. This is to allow any leaks at the shutoff valves to fall to the ground. If you place the lines inside the trailer or even inside the belly pan you could create a pocket of explosive gas if you had a leak.

Hi Randy. That is absolutely correct. Except for termination at a consuming appliance, there can be no joints or valves inside the shell of the trailer. Thus everything is suspended below. On new units, Canada code dictates that a rubber shielding be installed over the copper tubing. Wish they'd build all units that way.

Hey Randy, I think it is normal for the propane lines to be outside the belly pan. My 65 Safari is like that.

We were at that point where the pipes were going to be measured out and cut. That simplifies things. Outside, but foam encased they will be.

Spiral cut water hose, is much easier, and no "mess".
