1967 Globetrotter newbie just getting started

Hi all,
Want to say this is a great forum with tons of useful information.
I have a 1967 GT, the exterior in in decent shape, the interior has the usual issues with floor rot ETC. I have started to gut the interior and plan to take it all the way to the frame. Am about 4 weekends into it and expect this will be a very long project. I do not have a garage to store her in so I am planning to do this shell-on.
My 1st question that I need some advice on; all the glass is intact and original corning, I need to replace the clips on the bottom as most are rusted and unusable. These are frameless windows and am wondering if there is a trick to removing the clips, I have tried gently to remove and they don't budge, I don't want to break the glass trying to remove these.
Thanks,
Randy

Well, The good news is that you have a 1967 GT. That's great, they're terrific.

It appears to have some missing pieces, changed pieces, and added pieces. Everything is repairable and replaceable. Is there fire damage?

I have four years into mine, and it's been an entertaining project. There's tons of great information in the search feature, Google search finds more usually.

With solvent (D-40) and gentle wriggling, the clips will remove. There's threads on this...

Thanks, I will give that a try for removing the clips.
No signs of fire damage (as of yet) but quite a bit of water damage inside.

No fires is good. Looked like the aft street-side window had smoke around it.

Stay flexible with your ideas, sometimes what seems the easiest way, really isn't. There are procedures that have been developed by very experienced rebuilders, and their methods are usually the very best advise.

There are plenty threads to research any issue..

Rebuilding the windows isn't that hard, but consumes time. They are near impossible to seal to the point that they are wind-driven rain proof, but you can get them close.

Folks on the Forum really like lots of pictures to comment on...

The First pic is when we picked her up, had been sitting for about 10 years, it was dirt and grime on the aft side, has since been cleaned up.
I'll be sure to post lots of pics as things move along.
Thanks,

I love globetrotters! The clips remove fairly easily, just some solvent and patience will do the trick. I think Vintage Trailer Supply has them now. Would love to see interior pictures! When we got ours we planned to save the original interior, but ended up having to gut it . We love it now, but was more work than we initially thought it would be. Congrats! Look forward to,watching your progress!

Here are a few before interior pics

Photos look better than in real life, most all of the wood paneling has rot near the bottom and the veneer is mostly gone, hope to save the stove, upper cabinets, the fiberglass shower, bath sink and a few other items.

Started at the front on the demo, it is taking a long time as I'm trying to save as much as I can, on the home stretch now.

I'm a Globetrotter newbie too!!! I bought a 1965 and got in parked next to my garage right as the snow started this year. I'm trying to come up with a plan so I can get started once the weather gets a little better. The floor under the bathroom is pretty shot, so I'm thinking I'll be into a total demolition/ restoration too!

Nice find! It will be awesome when you get it like you want it. A good friend has one that has been in the family since it was new, no changes. It's well used, but everyone with the big 5th wheel rigs always want to peek inside and go ooooooh, ahhhhhhhh. Very High COOL factor.

The W-D40 worked on the window clips.
Thank you,

GlobeTrotters are the Goldilocks of Airstreams!

Welcome Randy.
Pound for pound and foot by foot, I haven't found a better sized Airstream than the GlobeTrotter, not too short and not too long. They fit into two end to end parking lot spaces without sticking out or taking up 7 or more parking spaces like longer units do. I get many comments on how spacious my 66' is from longer trailer owners. They tow and track nicely and have the widest choice of interior arrangements. The smooth Corning windows are of course the icing on the "porridge". I'd put my windows up to the pressure washer test (or Florida downpour) any day.
Your tub looks to be in great shape are you keeping it? My twin layout had the center shower pan which was removed by previous owners (PO's) so I had to build a new one, but it gave me the opportunity to add the 18 gal gray tank under it. How's your fridge?

Thanks Michael,
I plan on reusing the tub and as much else that can be brought back up to par, the fridge is missing so I will have to get a new one. Not sure on the direction I'll be going yet on the final interior, I will have lots of time to think about it as I work on the frame, floor & shell.
Thanks,

Good looking trailer! I took over 2 years on our 67 Sovereign but we have really been using and enjoying it. We left some of it stock, but changed things that made more sense for the way we use it. I put a lot of time and effort in the windows, and added drip rails too. But we have never had any leaks. Modifying the trailer didn't bother us too much, because we will probably never sell or trade up at our age, and this was basically scrap when we started. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I did ours outside too, until we started polishing, then wanted to be out of the Florida sun. Have fun!

Got the bathroom finally removed, was able to get everything out without damaging anything, The floor over the black water tank was completely rotted and the tank is cracked across the top. Hope to be able to get the interior skins off soon and see the true condition of the frame.

Kinda gross, the black water tank is about 80% full of "solids" think I'll be creamating the whole tank when I get it removed.
