Your Airstream's Name & Why

This is our third AS also known all across the country as "the War Wagon". She/they started out as tailgating AS's and have rolled to festivities from sea to shining sea! 🇺🇸 🏈 🇺🇸

We've always been fans of 'Thomas the Tank Engine'. So it seems natural that we call our Airstream Thurston and our RAM Skidmore.

Since we have had our "new" 1955 Flying Cloud for a while now, I told my wife it's time to name it. She came up with "The Silver Fox", since we both have hit the "Big 60" (me before her!!).

An old thread but a goodie, on hiatus from 2011 to 2015, then after a brief flurry of comments, on hiatus again from 2015 to now.

My 2012 Airstream Interstate is named "Kaiser," for several reasons.
1 - Kaiser is German for Emperor, and my Interstate started life as a Sprinter van built in Dusseldorf before being imported to the US and converted to a Interstate by Airstream. So the name harkens back to its heritage.
2 - Kaiser Aluminum is a major player in the aluminum business— maybe not as big as Alcoa, but still respected— so the name also indicates solidarity with the Interstate's aluminum Airstream brethren despite being made of fine German steel.
3 - When I'm driving it, I feel like the king of the road, so despite being somewhat pretentious it's also indicative of my feelings towards it.
4 - It has wheels, so Kaiser rolls! Who says I can't be pretentious and irreverent at the same time?

Side note, my 2013 Honda Fit toad is named "Mikado" which is Japanese for Emperor, in keeping with the naming convention. That's properly pronounced MI-ka-do, not mi-KA-do like the Gilbert and Sullivan play.

Gotta love anything with Athens music references! I tried for years to get DH to agree to name our most recent boat Dreams So Real. Now that we've sold it (in anticipation of something silver) maybe I'll try again. Or scan some REM lyrics for a nugget of goodness..

Right now 'Boatless' is the frontrunner.

Just as well. That one's already taken, I think. Or was that one "Tin Twinkie?" I forget.

But if you are really set on using "Aluminum Twinkie" in spite of her objections, just tell her that's a whole lot better than calling it the "Aluminum Tampon"!

Lol, oh she really would say, " you are not being helpful" as I suggested my alternate A Twinkie, which got nixed too.

Thanks to the "Silver Fox" for reviving the thread.

Our first trailer is named "Marlo" for my wife (Marie Louise). Mattirs, you may want to consider something a little less controversial. Name it for your wife and buy another one you can name for health food? (By the way, can't help but think "Doesn't Mattir" might just fit.)

Our second is "Serendipity" for the way we like to travel. No reservations, just set an end point and head in that direction. When we've driven far enough, we look for a campground (we have an app for that) within the next hour or so. If we like it, we stay longer, otherwise, we move on. When we run out of time, we turn around and head homeward. So far, in 10+ years we've spent one night in a Cracker Barrel parking lot. We had a great breakfast and moved on...

ROFL - I like that, when asked about it's name.
I will let you know what my wife thinks, but I'm sure she'll be humming a few bars of " your so vain" followed be... see quote above.

We purchased a restored 1968 Tradewind this year. His name is "Wally" after Wally Byam.

We named our new FC "Chara" which is Greek for "joy". The reason should be obvious.
