Yosemite This Weekend

I just booked a site at the Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley for this coming Sun-Tue and was wondering if any other Airforums folk are going to be there as well. If so, stop by and say hi & we can chat all things aluminum!!

Yosemite Valley

I think that campground is in Yosemite Valley. You will probably be able to enter the park from the south west...you won't have to go on Tioga Road.......hope all goes well.....it is spectacular..but be prepared for snow....it can snow almost anytime but Yosemite Valley is open year around...paula

Thanks for all of the inputs from everyone. To tell you the truth, I hadn't even considered the possibility of snow. According to the weather reports they've been experiencing temps in the 60s and are expecting 80deg on Sunday and 81deg on Monday. Given those numbers I don't expect much issue with the snow (at least not on the roads). I'll try and capture some good pics.

Yeah, weather this weekend is looking very nice. We're headed to Yosemite (North Pines Campground) with a bunch of friends in early May. This will be our third straight spring trip... we're going for the waterfalls!!!

Just got back yesterday. The weather and the waterfalls were AMAZING!!! Had a great campsite in the Upper Pines Campground. The only issue during the whole trip came when I went to dump my black tank at the campground and found that the bottom access door on my bumper trunk was missing along with all of the contents! Somewhere between Campbell and Yosemite along the highway is the access door/panel, the stinky-slinky and the associated fittings....my apologies to CalTrans, but I had no idea until I went to dump. A nice jaunt down 140 to Mariposa solved the problem with all new sewer supplies; $80 later and I was back in business. Looking at the positive, at least now I have all new bits and pieces for the nasty task.

Here are a couple of pictures from the trip.

I'm green with envy. How bad were the crowds?

Aside from the campgrounds being full, there really weren't any crowds to speak of. Keep in mind that my trip was Sun-Wed so I didn't have the "Saturday day trip" park visitors to deal with.

The only other drama was a bear in our campground Monday night. Apparently it walked right behind my trailer while the pups and I were inside listening to an episode of Car Talk on my Ipod. Later that evening other campers had the bright idea to not just yell at the bear to scare it off, but also chase it!! Hello Mr. Darwin!!! Fortunately for them, the bear chose the flight option in the "flight or fight" decision. I would hate to see the outcome had the bear felt trapped and chosen otherwise.

To anyone thinking of going, I HIGHLY recommend seeing the park this time of year. Wild flowers are in full bloom and waterfalls are gushing. I wish I were there right now!!!

Todd,
I am planning to visit Yosemite valley in last week of Sept. This will be the first time to drive up there with a 20ft airstream. What will be the best route from Orange County. I remember the road from Visalia was quite challanging.
Any suggestions as to what is the best way to get up there and your experience with driving to the park.

We are from N. OC and will be going up there thurs through Mon Labor day. I go up through Merced going up Ca 99. Then take CA140 through the west entrance because less mountain road driving. There is a detour from a few years ago due to a mountain slide and there is a, I think 45 or 50 foot overall length limit. With your 20 footer you will have no trouble at all.
By the way, how do you like your 20 footer? We are looking for one as well. What do you use to tow it with?
Have a great trip!
